When we walk in love, we will impact the people in our lives. The word “love” in Ephesians 5:2 refers to agape love. The “new” man in Christ is a holy witness for the Lord. What is your motive when you interact with others? How do we “walk in love”?

1.  Follow God the Father (Eph 5:1)

Ephesians 5:1 tells us to follow God the Father. We should not follow men as they are not perfect. Instead, we should imitate (follow) God as beloved children of God. Remember that before we were born-again, we were God’s enemies. We were desperately wicked when God loved us. Therefore, do not only help those who deserve our help. That is not God’s example. We cannot imitate one we do not know. Therefore, we must know God very well in order to follow Him. Walking in love is not an option. It is a key evidence of our salvation. We must see ourselves as children of God, and not children of the world.

2.  Follow Christ (Eph 5:2)

Jesus became sin for us in order to redeem us from sin. Jesus wants the best for us, so we must also want the best for others. Are we willing to suffer for others? Are we prepared to help others to follow Christ even if we have to swallow our pride? As Christ hath loved us. we must love others too. Help one another to serve, and worship, God. The world still rejects Christ today. But God has not forsaken them. We are to share the gospel with them. The love of Christ in your heart can remove bitterness and anger. It can cover a multitude of sins which others have committed against you.

Walking in love should not be at the expense of truth. Walking in love will keep us on the right path. Our life will be abundant and full if we walk in love. The love of God has been shed abroad in His children’s hearts. We can and should walk in love for Jesus’ sake.
