God is good in every aspect: in His character and all that He does. It is not just a truth, but also an experience that every Christian can have because of his relationship with God. And we can wholeheartedly say, without doubting, that He is good in all circumstances in our life. The Lord is good and thus the believer’s life can show the following three evidences as revealed in Psalm 100.

1.  A joyous life (Ps 100:1-2)

Christ promised the saints an abundant life (John 10:10); and Paul told the saints to rejoice evermore (1 Thess 5:16; Phil 4:4) even as he was imprisoned and shortly to be martyred. When we truly experience the LORD’s goodness, we will be joyful and our joy will be expressed, eg: through singing, proclamation, etc, wherever we are, regardless of our location (Ps 100:1). And our rejoicing will be in things spiritual which will last into eternity.

Psalm 100:2 says we are to serve the LORD with gladness. We can do so by denying self and availing ourselves to spiritual activities and spending time with the saints. In 2023, have we experienced how good God has been to us? His patience, faithfulness, forgiveness, comforting, caring, strengthening, etc. He will strengthen us to serve Him. As we rely on Him, our joy in Him will increase, and our life will be a joyous one.

2.  The basis of our existence (Ps 100:3-4)

We exist because of the LORD’s goodness. Every part of us is made by Him and everything that happens is by His providence, all because of His goodness. God made us so that we can serve Him. We are His sheep, totally dependent upon Him, the Shepherd. We must, therefore, be thankful, for Him. He has kept us (individually and as a church) to continue this earthly race. It is so easy for us to sin, yet He continues to keep us here, to be His witnesses. And, in the process, we have many wonderful experiences that we would have missed if He has taken us home earlier.

3.  His mercy (Ps 100:5)

God’s “mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations” (Ps 100:5). Thus, we can trust Him. And God’s mercies “are new every morning” (Lam 3:23).

The LORD is good. Pray that in this new year 2024 you will surrender your life to Him and obey His Word; and thus experience His goodness in your life more and more.
