We seek after many things, especially material things like food and raiment, in order to satisfy our physical bodies. However, Matthew 6:33 says we are to seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” The King of the Jews, i.e. our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, came into this world to die on the cross because of the sins of men. Hence, men are to seek the King of the Jews in order to be saved from the condemnation of their sins. There are three types of seekers. Which type are you?

1.  The ones who have seen (Matt 2:1-2)
Herod was a provincial king (under the Roman rule) in charge of Judaea. He was from Edom and hence knew the culture of Israel well. He was to maintain peace in the land. At that time, wise men from the east travelled to Jerusalem after seeing a star which represented the birth of the King of the Jews.

What “star” are we following today? We must not seek based on sight alone because there are many false “stars” or christs being presented by the world. Many seekers who followed these false christs are being misled and ended up compromising their Christian testimonies. These false christs are not the Christ of the bible. Hence, we must be careful and search our own hearts to make sure that the Jesus Christ we know is the Christ that is taught in God’s Word.

2.  The ones who are troubled (Matt 2:3-8)
Herod was troubled when he heard that there was one “born King of the Jews” (Matt 2:2). Pretending to want to worship the King, he asked the wise men “what time the star appeared” (Matt 2:7), and to inform him when they had found the child. However, his true agenda was to kill the child in order to maintain his authority and rule in Judaea.

Today, there are those who infiltrate churches, pretending to seek and follow Christ, but their true agenda is evil as they seek to destroy and diminish the authority of the Word of God.

3.  The ones who came and worship (Matt 2:9-12)
The wise men followed the star and eventually found Jesus. They fell down and worshipped Him alone. This form of seeking is pleasing to God as it not only seeks to see, but more importantly it seeks to worship. We must seek Jesus with the intention of worshipping Him and to give of our best as we serve Him.
