Pastoral Letter 12 Aug 2018

The uncertainty of life after death can fill a man's heart with great fear because he does not know exactly what will happen after he dies. The thought of death alone is enough to cause man to pause whatever he is doing and to look for whatever solution he can find to prolong his life. Last Tuesday, I was introduced to a man who suffered from fourth stage colon cancer. I shared the gospel with him and his wife. They were receptive but did not believe. The doctor said that he probably will have at least another 3 months to live, so I thought I can still take my time to visit him again. But his condition deteriorated very quickly. The next time I visited him, he was in a single room all by himself. He was gasping for air. His eyes were opened, but he did not respond to me. I tried to get his attention but to no avail. That very night, he passed away. To the family, they believe it was a form of relief both for him and his family. But I know that without Christ, he has no relief at all.

Life becomes certain when God is in the picture. For you know where you came from, why you are here and, most importantly, where you are going. And this begins when we come to know God through Christ, our Lord and Saviour. This is by His grace. Without His grace, what would become of us? We would not know about tomorrow. We are limited in many ways. We do not even know what will happen the next minute. If we think we can be self-sufficient and we can control our own life, we deceive ourselves.

Apostle James said right to our proud faces, "Ye know not what shall be on the morrow" (James 4:14). Straight to the point! And then he asked, "For what is your life?" And the answer is, "It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away." Go to a mirror, and blow onto it. It becomes blur. But within seconds, the mirror is clear again. That is how long our breath will last. The day will come when we will just stop breathing. Are you certain, or uncertain, about life? Do you know for sure where you came from, why you are here and where you are going? God wants you to be sure. And this is the reason why He sent Jesus to be our Saviour and Lord. Do you want your life to be certain? Do you want the solution to your sin problem? If so, then come and believe in Jesus today, and receive Him as your Saviour and Lord. And fear no more. May God help us. Amen.

Yours in Christ,
Pastor Dennis Kwok
