Pastoral Letter 05 Aug 2018

Apostle Paul wrote in Colossians 2:2b-3, “… to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ. In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” The mystery of God was fully manifested in Jesus Christ. He has revealed God to man in a personal and “visible” way. When we come to know Christ, we come to know God personally. When we acknowledge Jesus to be our Saviour and Lord, we gain the full assurance of both wisdom and knowledge. Wisdom and knowledge go hand in hand. If we seek after Christ, the treasures of wisdom and knowledge belong to us. These treasures are said to be hidden in Christ for two reasons.

First, Jesus Christ is the very embodiment of all wisdom. He is the One Person who lived out the truth. The wisdom of life (how to live life) is seen in Jesus Christ and in Him alone. In Him are all the treasures of wisdom as well as all the treasures of practical day-to-day living that enable us to glorify God.

Second, Jesus Christ is the very embodiment of all knowledge. He is the Creator and Sustainer of the universe, therefore all truth and facts of the universe are found in Him. In Jesus Christ is the knowledge of creation, the universe, good and evil, time and eternity, health and diseases, comfort and suffering, God and man.

With wisdom and knowledge, man can understand himself and his world in Christ Jesus. Any approach to understanding the world, apart from Christ, leads to false conclusions and a life of corruption, discrimination, strife, division, and all other evils. We must seek and search out the great treasures of wisdom and knowledge that are hidden in Christ Jesus. This means that you and I are to diligently study God’s revelation to us, i.e. His precious Word. Are you ready to do it? May God help us. Amen.

Yours in Christ,
Pastor Dennis Kwok
