Pastoral Letter 19 Aug 2018

“For we walk by faith, and not by sight” (2 Cor 5:7) is what we often encourage one another when we struggle with finances. The threat of our rice bowl being broken could be due to reasons such as poor health, bad economy, or simply because the Spirit of God is prompting us to leave immediately as our spiritual life and health is severely hindered by the great demands of our job. How can we walk by faith with confidence in the Lord whom we cannot see?

The context in which these words (“walk by faith, not by sight”) are found is how believers are to be found walking faithfully with the Lord till they are called home to glory. Easier said than done, but it is not impossible! And as believers, we must do it because this is what God wants from us. To walk by faith means to obey Christ whom we cannot see now by faith.

Christ is rightly called the Living Word, the Logos as taught by Apostle John in John 1:1. The Living Word has given us His Written Word, the Bible. And that is how we know the way to walk in obedience to the Living Word. Walking by faith is to obey Christ in His Word in whatever circumstance that we are in right now. The time will come when we shall walk by sight. For we shall see Christ face to face and dwell with Him for eternity. But now, it is not by sight yet. We are to walk by faith, trusting in Christ who is praying for us as we struggle through life's journey on earth till the day we are called home to glory.

Life now may be trying, tough and difficult. Do not give up easily. His grace is all sufficient to carry us through to the end. The eternal day of rest is coming soon and we shall be forever relieved from all our labour. Be faithful, my dear friends. Let us walk together by faith, and not by sight all the way to the end, for Jesus' sake. May God help us. Amen.

Yours in Christ,
Pastor Dennis Kwok
