Without doing anything on our part, our carnality continues to grow. On the other hand, our spiritual life cannot grow when there is no proper care, love and devotion given to it. To grow spiritually, we must first have the passion and the desire to study the Word of God. We must also be careful not to lose our holy witness and testimony for God in our daily living.

True Christians, who have been born again, will have the desire to want to grow spiritually in Christ by feeding on the Word of God, just as one needs to feed on physical food in order to grow physically. We must be diligent and plan to study God’s Word daily so that our spiritual life will keep growing stronger and stronger. After feeding on “milk,” we will want to progress to feed on “meat” by seeking to understand even the difficult passages in God’s Word so that our understanding of God’s Word will increase. We will attend Bible studies, use Bible tools (such as concordances, etc) to aid us in our understanding of God’s Word.

However, we must also be careful to know why we pursue the study of God’s Word. We must study God’s Word with the purpose of transforming our lives for the glory of God, so that through our transformed lives, we can be a holy witness and testimony for God in this world. Knowing God’s Word, we will obey and walk in truth and not be led astray by the many false teachings that are so rampant in this world. We must study God’s Word diligently so that we will not fall victim to “unlearned and unstable” (2 Pet 3:16) people. We must study, obey and do God’s Word so that we will remain faithful and true until the “day of the Lord” (2 Pet 3:10) comes, when God will judge us using His Word as the yardstick to measure our faithfulness in our walk here in this world.

Therefore, we must be cautious and guard our lives carefully so that our walk here in this world will be pleasing to God and we will not be a stumbling block to others. The devil will use every means (including discouragement from our loved ones and friends) to pull us away from walking diligently with God. We must stand firm in the Word of God, which is our foundation, and not let these discouragements and setbacks affect our walk with God. We must always seek to promote Christ in our lives and not let our pride destroy our holy witness and testimony.
