God has divided the world into two groups of people. One group (the believers) is special to Him. As believers, we must know why we are special; otherwise we will become like the world (the other group of people).

1. Special Existence : When we are saved, we are also instantaneously fit for heaven. However, God allows us to continue to remain on this earth to fulfill His purpose. We are a “chosen generation” (1 Pet 2:9). God has chosen us to be born in this generation. He determines when we are born. We are born in this generation where we have to deal with the charismatic movement, witness the formation of the One-World religion that will usher in the Antichrist and perhaps our generation will witness the second coming of Jesus Christ.

2. Special Expectations : Since God determines our special existence, He also has special expectations. We are a “royal priesthood” (people with a religious significance, 1 Pet 2:9). We are to be the mediators between God and the sinful people because God will only hear the prayers and accept worship and deeds of the believers. Royal means we are adopted into the kingship of Christ. Hence, there are many things we cannot do which we used to do. We have to conduct ourselves differently. We are to be mediators for our loved ones that they may come to know Christ. In the church, we are to help one another to be better priests; encourage and uplift one another. We are also to be holy witnesses for God. We are “an holy nation” (1 Pet 2:9), a people that get rid of sins from their lives. “An holy nation” is a reflection of the holy God. This is why God requires His people to be holy, for He is holy. We are also “a peculiar people,” purchased of God by the blood of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ came to destroy death, hell and the devil. Nothing that happens to us in this earth can cause us to lose our salvation. The world looks at us based on our occupations and achievements, but we are a peculiar people chosen to be a royal priesthood. What does God expect from us? We are to show that we are new creatures in Christ. We give up our old sinful habits and our motives in life changed. Our way of life has changed to befit our roles as a royal priesthood.

3. Special Experience : The special role we have now is given to us based on God’s mercy. We must not be proud, instead we must be longsuffering, patient and humble. We were all totally depraved and all of us are chiefs of sinners. We must not measure our sins against the worst of men; rather we compare ourselves against Jesus Christ and His Word.
