Pastoral Letter 10 Jan 2021

My dear readers,

Democracy vs The LORD

Proverbs 16:5“Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.”

Democracy is the worldwide clarion call since the turn of the twentieth century when western civilizations began to conquer the world. They brought their brand of “government” to all the nations they vanquished, but with a colonial rule where not all are created and treated equally. Long after the colonial days are over, democracy remains deeply entrenched in the psyche of more than half the world’s population. Any country that is not democratic (the western version) is frowned upon and criticized. Those countries that are not democratic at all are forced to taste the wrath of man via riots, thousands of strikes to disrupt if not to cripple the economy. “Democracy” means “people power.” Let the world be ruled by the people. The choice of the people is paramount. If the people are godly (which is impossible) the leaders they elect to rule over them will be godly. If the people are wicked, the leaders they elect will be evil. They elect leaders that will sing their tunes. These leaders rule for a fixed term. If the people feel that their leaders have failed them, they oust them and new leaders are elected. This norm repeats itself from term to term. God is completely kept out of the picture. Man loves to be ruled by men of his choosing. This gives man a sense of control over his earthly destiny. He feels powerful and free.

Can “democracy” be gotten rid of? Getting rid of people power is almost impossible in western civilization. It is easier to switch off the light of the sun than to switch off the idea of democracy from the minds of sinful 21st century humanity. In the philosophical environment of democracy, there are no more righteous absolutes. Their only absolute is there are no absolutes. Right and wrong are determined by the people. People are now seen as all powerful! Laws of man evolve according to new generations of sinful man. A case in point is homosexuality. It was frowned upon as deviant and a destroyer of society and family life and considered as sinful and criminal. Today its ugly head is reared and painted as beautiful. Those who do not accept it are castigated, ostracized and in some cases severely punished or destroyed. Democracy is behind it all.

The Bible warned God’s children against this insidious form of governance.

Literal translation of Proverbs 16:5 – “An abomination to the LORD is everyone who is proud in heart: though hand join in hand, he shall certainly not be unpunished.”

The Heart of Democracy is Condemned – The pride of man is the seed of democracy. His heart is self-righteous. He decides everything in his life. What is best is determined by him. He decides his school, his home, his future, his work place, his life partner, his children and their fate, his retirement, including his death day (euthanasia). He neither cares for God nor seeks Him. A lie can be called a truth if he says so. Falsehood is massaged into a face of wholesome sweet innocence when in truth it is the poisonous sweet nectar of deception and death. The pride of man spawns democracy. Democracy in its present form is not found in either the Old or the New Testaments. But with the invention of the printing press in the 15th century and the birth of the age of enlightenment (also known as the age of reason) around the 17th and 18th centuries, man became more and more educated. Man began to think and reason better. His worldview shifts from mere acceptance to doubtful questions. The golden calf of education became a brilliant substitute for “simple faith.” The influence of German Rationalism coupled with French Naturalism and English Deism chipped away the concept of the monarchy. Democracy has successfully replaced western countries that were once ruled by kings and queens. Is it too much of a stretch then to say that God describes “democracy” as an abomination since God says, “Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD”? Democracy is the sum total of pride-filled sinful hearts.

Democracy is Impotent – The audacity of sinful man to think that with more sinful men on his side, even God is impotent against them. God describes this as “hand join in hand.” Man foolishly believes that majority rules, that man can out-vote God and He would helplessly sit on His glorious heavenly throne and do nothing! The LORD declares comprehensively: “he shall not be unpunished.” Every sinner answers to Him. He can judge them using earthly judgment, if He decides to show man His mercies. This is to awaken him to his foolishness if he would only acknowledge His presence.

For example, will sinful man see the omnipotent hand of God in this present viral pandemic? Sinful man would rather attribute it to his fellow man as the cause so that he can find a solution such as a vaccine to immunize himself. In this manner, man takes the credit as he holds tightly to his democratic power over his own fate and earthly conditions. The fact of “it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” (Heb 9:27) does not faze him one bit. He is reminded daily of death, but the democratic mind refuses to believe that it will be his turn next. He would rather challenge God with his raised fist toward heaven than bow down in humble repentance and plead for mercy. The final punishment of God on all who die in sin is everlasting torment with gnashing of teeth in the Lake of Fire.

Democracy is the deceptive ploy of the god of this world. Sinful man has no power at all. He has been deluded into thinking that he has. The fact that he came out of the dust of the ground and to dust will he return supports the truth of man’s impotency. Wielding short term temporal “power” over his fellow man is not real power. The only One who possesses real power is the omnipotent God. He controls and transcends time.

Life and death are in His sovereign hand. Dear sinner, the only way to turn the wrath of an angry, righteous and holy God from your life today and for all eternity is to humble yourself!

Food for Thought – Do you agree that “democracy” is the wool that the devil has pulled over man’s eyes?
