The concept of a household is that of belonging to a house or family. The church is the household of God. However, the church has lost the meaning of being a spiritual household. Many Christians take church membership for granted. They may simply leave their church when they face any trouble in the church or after they have been disciplined by the church leadership for their heinous sins against God.

In Ephesians 2:19, the Apostle Paul reminded Christians that they were all once “orphans” who do not belong to the household of God. As unbelievers, our eyes were blind to God and we did not know Him. We were like strangers and foreigners in the household of God. However, after salvation, we now belong to the household of God, and we must treat our brethren like family. We must love them with the same love which the Lord Jesus Christ loves us. Jesus Christ loves everyone equally, He died for all. We too must love equally without any prejudice everyone in our church. If we have hurt someone in church, we must seek for forgiveness and reconciliation with that person because we are in the same household of God. We must serve and worship God in unity.

The household of God must be “built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone” (Eph 2:20). Just as the chief corner stone is used as a reference point in building a house, we must also make Jesus Christ our reference point when building our church. Hence the household of God must focus on Christ and Him alone. We must follow His teaching and do all that He had commanded us in His Word. We must believe by faith in the Jesus Christ of the Bible. The Holy Spirit will help us to discern the truth from the many false Christs that are so common in the world today.

With Jesus Christ as the only reference point and foundation the church is to be built upon, there can only be one household of God. As members of Truth BP Church, we are to help one another grow spiritually in Christ so that the church “groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord” (Eph 2:21). We must love every member of the church equally, like a family, just as how our Lord Jesus Christ loves us without any prejudice.
