Not Living in the Flesh (1 Pet 4:1-3)
Living in the flesh means letting the flesh control us, i.e. doing whatever our flesh desires and having carnal desires. The carnal mind is self-centered and has no spiritual desires. There is no justification for Christians to live in the flesh. Christians do fall into sin but we must repent immediately. We must not hold on to sinful ways. How can Christians stop living in the flesh?
We must not see the world as a friendly place. We cannot afford to be
slothful. We must always be on our guard. Most Christians see the world as
a playground and not a battlefield. Their guards are down. Their minds are
filled with the things of this world. They think that God has left them
behind to play in a playground after they have been saved. Have we wasted
our time after we have been saved? If this world is a playground then why
was Jesus abused and crucified? The world is not friendly to Christ. We
must teach our children that the world is a battleground. Pray with them
before they go out into the world. The world will try to blind their minds
to Bible truths. We need to "arm" ourselves (1 Pet 4:1). We must
have the same mind as Christ. We must be prepared to lose the things of the
world in order to live for Christ. We are to repent and seek Christ's
approval, not the world's. We must not relax while on earth. Our witness
for Christ remains.
We must not have the desire to live in the flesh. Why don't we determine to live a holy life? Pray without ceasing. A determined choice will help us get out of living in the flesh. We are attracted to the world due to our sinful nature. Keep the world out of our homes. What will you choose for your children? Will they fail in the faith? We must teach them to make the determined choice.
We have a new nature after salvation. We must bear a holy witness, for we are a new creation. We must stop living in the flesh. Are you living in the flesh? Obey and do the will of God continuously as a testimony of the new life you have in Christ. |
