1. Power of the Mighty Word (Rev 13:5–6)

“The pen (i.e. words) is mightier than the sword.” What a person experiences in bodily harm may not affect his mind much, but what he hears can remain within him for a long time. Today, we live in a world that despises silence. We are constantly engaged with our mobile devices, watching and listening, often bombarded with noise and distractions. In the last days, the Antichrist will use the power of words to influence and deceive. Power and authority are given to the Antichrist by the devil (Rev 13:2b). He will be energized with cunning wisdom, ideas and persuasive devices to control people around the world. The English language, which has been widely used to spread Christianity globally, can also be used as a means of widespread influence and deception. Through his words, the Antichrist will blaspheme the name of Christ, promoting a false gospel and leading people to believe in a false Christ. This deception will have a global impact. Yet, true believers, guided by the Holy Spirit, will be able to discern the truth.

2. Power of Military Might (Rev 13:7-8)

Words alone are not enough to establish dominance. Force often follows. The Antichrist’s kingdom is symbolised by iron mixed with clay, implying that his kingdom will face some resistance or challenge, but will ultimately overcome it. The world longs for peace. In times of unrest, a powerful figure who promises peace and security can easily gain control. Nations may surrender their sovereignty in exchange for peace and security. Once in power, the Antichrist will assert his authority through both persuasive words and military might.

3. Power that is Limited (Rev 13:9-10)

The Antichrist’s power is not absolute. It is limited by God. He may harm believers physically or persecute them, but he cannot take away their salvation.

Do not procrastinate in a matter that is so important, a matter that pertains to your eternity, either in heaven or hell. Your safety must be in Christ alone and not in the things of the world that will eventually be destroyed. Believers are called to remain patient and faithful until the end. Even as God reveals the power of the Antichrist, his power is limited and has boundaries. In the meantime, believers must be patient and endure and hold on to their faith to the very end.
