The Thanksgiving of Peace (Lev 7:11-21)
We can have peace with God because of what the Lord Jesus has done for us. Are you thankful that you have peace with God when you come into the Lord's house today? Or are you distracted and have lost the sense of thanksgiving. We must be reminded to be joyful and glad when we come into the Lord's house. 1. Desire in Thanksgiving (Lev 7:11-13) The peace offering is offered for thanksgiving, and is not a requirement. It is a freewill offering. Thanksgiving is never forced upon anyone. Thanksgiving unto God must be from our hearts. The Lord has designed and ordained that leavened bread can be used as an offering of thanksgiving. One possible reason is that this is a freewill offering. Thus, the Lord accepts it. But for the other mandatory offerings, they signify purity and holiness. Thus, only unleavened bread is allowed. 2. Sharing in Thanksgiving (Lev 7:14-18) The partaking of the peace offering expresses communion and fellowship. When this peace offering is offered, it is a sharing of thanksgiving and rejoicing together. There is a difference between a peace offering for thanksgiving and that for a vow. For a thanksgiving offering, it is to be eaten on the same day. For the peace offering of vow, it is to be eaten within two days. For the peace offering, some parts will be offered to the Lord and some parts for the priests, and the rest for the worshipper. Everyone shares in the communion and participation together. Likewise, thanksgiving is not to be kept within ourselves. It is to be shared among brethren. 3. Purity in Thanksgiving (Lev 7:9-21) Only those who are clean can give thanksgiving offering and can eat of it. Those who are unclean and ate the offering, they will be cut off from the people of Israel. Thus, the bible requires purity for the partaking of the peace offering. There is a standard of purity required because it is a reminder to us that we cannot offer our offerings to God and yet still be unclean in our sins. This is to remind us that God is a Holy God. There must be purity in our worship and thanksgiving towards God. Do not exchange the peace with God with anything else in this world. Let us put aside our uncleanness in thanksgiving. |
