Dealing with Sin (Lev 5:5-13)
Man cannot deal with sin successfully using their own ways or means. They will not find peace when they do so. They will still be guilty of their sins. How then can a person find restitution for the sins that they had committed? In the Old Testament times, this was done via the offerings as prescribed by God in the book of Leviticus. However, after Christ had come and died for us on the cross, these OT offerings are no longer required. We deal with our sins as follows: 1. Confession of sin (Lev 5:5-6) We must first recognise that we have sinned against God and admit our guilt and sin. We must not blame to others, but confess our sins unto God. This not only shows our acknowledgement of the sins that we had committed against God, it also shows that we are not harbouring pride in our hearts and that we do not intend to cover up our sins. 2. Come before God (Lev 5:7-10) We must then no longer continue in our sins, but come before God and seek His mercy and forgiveness through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. God has given us His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, who is our perfect Substitute. All our sins will be forgiven through Him. God is merciful and will forgive those who go to Him. Although forgiven, we may still receive His chastisement, and we must accept and bear with the consequences of our sins. 3. Restoration from sin (Lev 5:11-13) After confessing our sins and going to God to seek His forgiveness of our sins through Christ, we can then be restored and rest in the wonderful grace of God. Forgiveness is assured through Christ for all who come to God in repentance and to seek His mercy and grace. This provision is for everyone. God will never reject any man who goes to Him through Christ. The problem more often than not is that man does not want to go to God. Our sins have caused Christ’s death on the cross, but there is assurance of His forgiveness and comfort in His mercy. Hence it is not complicated when dealing with our sins. We just need to go to God in repentance, and to admit our sin before Him, plead for His mercy and forgiveness through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. |
