The Messiah Prophesied (Isa 9:1-7)
Prophesies are either foretelling or forthtelling. In Isaiah 9:1-7, it concerns a foretelling prophecy. Our heavenly Father uses prophesies to warn His children about future events that will happen. For prophesies regarding the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, it is often given in times of darkness. The ministry of Isaiah was during the reign of King Ahaz, an evil king of Judah. 1. The Messiah prophesied as a great light (Isa 9:1-2)The prophecy of the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ in Isaiah 7:14 is that He will shine like a bright light in the lives of the children of Israel. The people were walking in spiritual darkness under the reign of King Ahaz. The people of Israel were about to be destroyed by the Assyrians when God sent prophets like Isaiah to warn and save some Jews from eternal destruction. Is the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ still a great light to us? Or have we become so used to it that our hearts are no longer stirred? Do we need God to send afflictions into our lives to open our eyes and hearts to the futility of carnality? 2. The Messiah prophesied as a great and mighty conqueror (Isa 9:3-5)The destruction upon the return of the Lord Jesus Christ to save His people will take place swiftly, just like how the Lord Jesus Christ defeated Satan through His death on the cross. We must not let the guilt of sin have dominion over us. We cannot depend on ourselves but to lean on the Lord Jesus Christ who has delivered us from the bondage of sin by being our suffering Messiah. 3. The Messiah prophesied as a child (Isa 9:6-7)The Lord Jesus Christ must be born as a human baby in order to save us. The Lord Jesus became one of us in order to be our substitute to save us. He is our suffering Messiah. Our Messiah is returning for us soon – how will we be when He returns? Will we be faithful or are we false disciples? We must be prepared to meet our Lord any time He returns. |
