Generally, there is an aversion to authority in society these days. We see this in families, in church and in the country. People are not willing to submit to authority. This reflects the nature of people’s hearts. Apostle Paul constantly emphasizes the headship of Christ.

1. The deity of the Lord Jesus in relation to the whole universe (Eph 1:21)

The phrase“… principality, and power, and might, and dominion” (Eph 1:21) refer to a ruler. It is used to describe power in the earthly and spiritual realm. It includes ruling over angelic beings and spiritual forces. The Lord Jesus is far above all these earthly and spiritual rulers. Christ remains the greatest throughout all time, even into eternity. Man depends on man to attribute greatness to them. Christ does not require man to attribute greatness to Him – He is great in His inherent nature. We must be thankful that such a Great God came down to earth to die for our sins and to save us.

2. The dominion of the Lord Jesus over the church (Eph 1:22)

The Lord Jesus is the head over all things, and is the head of the church. There are divisions in the church because people fail to recognize headship of Christ in the church. Christ’s headship reflects His love for the church. It also describes the authority of Christ. There must be a reverential fear for Christ in the church. We must recognize that the leaders of the church are representatives of Christ’s authority.

3. The body of Christ (the church) must be filled with the fullness of Christ (Eph 1:23)

It is a great privilege for us that the body of Christ (the church) should be filled with the glory of Christ. Have we been manifesting the fullness of Christ in our church or have we been manifesting the world?

In everything that we do, the glory and authority of Christ must be manifested.
