In Ephesians 5:15, to “walk” represents how we live our lives. We can only have one walk and there is no starting over again. Hence, we must choose carefully how we walk. The nature of this walk is continuous, and it will only end when we stop breathing. Since we do not know when our walk will end, we must therefore be very circumspect in our walk.

1.  Walk in wisdom (Eph 5:15)

The prerequisite for walking in wisdom is our salvation. The Bible tells us that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. We must choose the way in which we want to walk. The broad way leads to hell and destruction. The narrow way leads to life everlasting and is a life of holiness.

Having chosen the narrow way to walk in, we must then wisely avoid places of evil or sin.

We must choose our friends carefully. Young people must beware of peer pressure. As children of God, we must be strong and not succumb to peer pressure. The people we befriend will influence our lives.

We must choose our words wisely before we speak. Once spoken, it is very hard to take our words back. We must guard our lips and mouth as well as the words that we use in our writings. Be careful what we put in our social media account. We do not want to shame the name of Jesus Christ.

2.  Walk in time (Eph 5:16)

We do not know how much time we have on this earth hence we must spend every day wisely for the Lord. We cannot take time back once it is gone. We must make it our priority to spend time with the Lord. We need God to help us to have a proper, God-honouring walk in this life. We are living in evil days hence we must redeem the time that we still have. Avoid fornication and homosexuality which are dominant and accepted in our world today.

If we are truly born-again Christians, we must walk in wisdom and in time. We do not want to stumble those around us or let the name of Christ be shamed.
