To be proud and self-centred is very much a part of our human nature. We want our achievements to be known. We want to be praised or to be glorified for our good works. This can be so even for born-again Christians. This is a constant struggle we will face till our very last breath on earth. We must give God the full glory for all things. This is to be done out of a sincere and genuine heart. Any fake glorifying will be condemned by God.

Reasons for giving all glory to God:

  1. The power to do anything comes from God (Eph 3:20)

All our accomplishment, everything we can do, is because of God and comes from Him. Know that when we are doing something, God can do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think. Whatever is accomplished through us is according to the power of God. It is accomplished by God. This power is spiritual and helps us to fight in the spiritual realm. It gives us the steadfastness and conviction to even stand alone for God. Thus, all glory must go to God. We must realise this, otherwise we will attempt to steal God’s glory for ourselves, feeding our pride of life.

  1. Only one who is born again will understand this (Eph 3:21)

Only a believer can understand that the power to do anything comes from God. Only a believer can thus give all glory to God. Only the church (the people of God) can shine God’s glory to the world. We know that our lives no longer belong to us, but to God and therefore are to be used for God’s glory. We must not strive for worldly ambitions. We must be very careful not to rob God of His glory. Even the smallest ambition to receive personal glory will make us friends of the world. Be warned of what is happening in many mega-churches today where the preachers are glorified instead of God. They do not point people to God, but to themselves. May we point the world to God by giving all glory to Him. This is something only believers can understand and do.
