The Lord Jesus Christ purchased us. This purchase is something that the world will frown upon. But do we mind being purchased like slaves? As unbelievers, we were already slaves because we were in bondage to sin. Sin was our master, not the devil. We are all sinners, but we are purchased by the Son with His own life. He redeemed us and delivered us from the bondage of sin (Eph 1:7). When we sin against God, we also sin against Christ. Yet, Christ came to die on the cross for us, to purchase us.

1. Purchased in full (Eph 1:7)

When Christ redeemed us, He paid in full. Without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sin. Christ died on the cross to save us. It is our heinous sins that caused the death of our Lord Jesus Christ. Christ forgave our sins in full, according to the riches of His grace. Do not cheapen what Jesus Christ did to purchase us from our sin. We cheapen it when live a life of sin, instead of living a holy life for the Lord.

We have the mind of Christ, and our lives must be transformed. Is the redemptive work of Christ so weak that our lives cannot be transformed? No! We must have a transformed life.

2. Purchased to gather us one day (Eph 1:9-10)

God reveals to us “the mystery of his will” (Eph 1:9). According to His timing, He will gather together in one all things in Christ” (Eph 1:10). The term “all things” refers to believers and all His creation in the new heaven and new earth. We, who are purchased by the Son of God and who believe in Him, will be gathered as one in God’s presence one day. Thus, why are we having conflicts among ourselves today? We are to live together as one here on earth because we will live together as one in heaven one day.

3. Purchased for God’s glory (Eph 1:11-12)

God gave salvation to the Jews first, and then through the Jews, salvation is given to Gentiles. Our responsibility is to send forth the gospel to others.

Our lives after salvation are good for heaven, but we have a calling to serve Him here on earth. Each one of us must know our calling; and live to bring glory to God in the areas that God has predestinated us to do. May we live our lives to the glory of God, and point others to Him.
