Apostasy prevails in Christendom today: Roman Catholics, Neo-evangelicals, Charismatics, and others present Christianity as one of works and of carnality, believing that they can enter heaven. When the Day of the Lord comes, it will not be as quiet as the first coming of Christ. When He comes again, He will come as the King of kings and the Lord of lords, with His myriads of angels and the resurrected Christians. It will be a day of great fear, wrath and judgment for the unbelievers and the false believers. Persecuted believers, however, will rejoice as it will be a day of vindication for them.

Be mindful of the day of the Lord and it will change your life today. If you ignore it, it will be a day of fear, sorrow and punishment. Do not mock God, He knows if you are mindful or not. What happens when we are mindful?

1. We will have a new perspective of time (2 Pet 3:8-9) . We will learn that God does not see time as we do. He may not have returned, but that does not mean He will not do so. He will do what He says, the Day of the Lord is certain. His tarrying is so that more will repent and be saved. Not revealing to us the exact time of His return helps us to always live holy lives for Him (to be right with God and with man), and to be ready for His return anytime.

2. We will have a new perspective of the world (2 Pet 3:10) . The world will be burned up. The world, stained with sin, is not important to God, but the people are, for Christ came to die for them. When we believe in this, we will not focus on the things of the world (promotion, best scores, possessions, etc) because we know that they will be all burnt up one day. Instead of striving for these earthly things, or to save this world, our focus must be on how to be a faithful witness to the people around us (classmates, colleagues, etc). When the opportunity arises, we can share, with prayer, a word for Christ. And we can live out our faith so that those around us can see our witness for Christ. We need to study and obey God’s Word, so that we can be more and more like Christ and learn to make right decisions. Be concerned for the people in our life, Christ is delaying His return so that many will come to repentance and be saved.

When we are mindful, we will have a new perspective of life, our new life (2 Pet 3:11-12). Bear in our body, the marks of godliness. Let others see Christ in us. We are given spiritual gifts to edify the body of Christ (Eph 4:11). But do not promote ourselves. Do we look forward to the Day of the Lord (2 Pet 3:12)? Do we believe? The right perspective is one which looks forward to it, and be ready.
