According to 1 Peter 5:12-14, Christian fellowship constitutes the following:

1 A Common Position (1 Pet 5:12)

The Christian’s common position is to glorify God. This is not based on one’s social status, education level, occupation, etc. It must first begin with a true and intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. Experiencing salvation grace is the common position. It holds Christians together. We are not to break God's Word in order to maintain a relationship with one another. One danger of close Christian fellowship week after week, year after year, is that we may step on others’ toes and hurt others (or we are being hurt by others). But the blood of Christ will be sufficient to enable us to overcome such issues. The grace of God in our life, and in others’ life, is sufficient to repair the disagreements we may have with one another. Nothing can separate us from Christ, and thus nothing can separate us from our Christian fellowship with one another.

2 A Common Election (1 Pet 5:13)

The early church was initially made up of Jewish believers up to Acts Chapter 7 when Apostle Peter was told to bring the gospel to the gentiles in the house of Cornelius in Acts Chapter 8. The Jewish believers suffered great persecution at the hands of the Sanhedrin Council who hated Jesus Christ and had Him crucified. The Sanhedrin Council had power only over the Jews, thus the gentile believers did not experience the persecution that Jewish believers experienced. As a result, they still had the means to support the persecuted Jewish Christians. Believers having a common election are to help one another regardless of their economic status or station in life. Election brings us even further back than our salvation. It brings us to the beginning. We did not choose how, when and where we were to be born. It is God who allowed our paths to cross and it is no accident. Do not let pride be the reason for broken Christian fellowship.

(3) A Common Peace (1 Pet 5:14)

This common peace is the peace of God that surpasses all understanding. It is not of the world. It first begins with peace with God through what Jesus Christ has done for us. The same peace that we have with God must be the same peace that we have with one another.
