About 13 to 14 years after Ishmael was born, the Lord spoke to Abram again. Abram was 99 years old and Sarai 89 at that time. God’s promise of an heir to Abram was yet to be fulfilled. It seemed physically impossible for them to have a child. But, with God nothing is impossible.

There are at least 7 promises to Abram that God will fulfil in Genesis 17:2-8.

God’s timing is the best. Despite Abram’s failures in trusting God, God did not forsake His covenant with him.

God was going to change Abram’s name to Abraham, which means “Father of many nations.” Abram’s new name (Abraham) will remind him of God’s faithfulness.

God is eternal, He has all the power to fulfil the promises of His covenant. Abraham was 175 years old when God took him home. This meant that Abraham lived long enough to see Jacob and Esau, his grandsons. Abraham was able to witness the power of God fulfilling His promise to him.

In Genesis 17:8, God promised Abraham that He will be God to His people.

We must walk by faith and not by sight. The world walks by sight and we must not live like the world. We must not be deceived by the world. We must believe the power of God. Our life is a journey of faith. We walk by faith step by step, trusting in God’s power to strengthen us every step of the way.

The world will try to distract us from trusting in God. God’s power is able to turn us from darkness into His marvelous light. We must have faith by God’s power. We must be perfect before the world because they have no light to see except through us. We have to show them the way of salvation.

May God help us.
