Pastoral Letter 01 Jul 2018

Another question submitted during the Q-&-A after the last discussion session at our Church Camp was: “Besides the avenue for members to attend FEBC classes and to have self-examination, what about those who are unable to attend FEBC classes? What can the church or the pastor do for them?” Answer: In Truth B-P Church, besides the Worship Service pulpit ministry every Lord’s Day, we have several avenues of learning God’s Word. The following are possible avenues that you would like to pray about and consider joining. Do note that some of them are according to age groups. (1) Basic Bible Knowledge (BBK) Class, (2) Adult Sunday School, (3) Junior Sunday School, (4) Bible Study Groups, (5) Fellowship Groups, and (6) Team Barnabas.

There must be a spiritual hunger and appetite for God’s Word in every born-again believer. It is good that this question is asked so that more may be aware of the avenues of learning God’s Word which are available within the church. Jesus says, “… Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” (Matt 4:4). No one really question why a man must eat good food in order to be strong and healthy. There is never an option for us to eat or not to eat in the first place. From birth, we have been eating at least three meals a day, and we know that we must eat in order to live. What about our spiritual body, the soul? Sad to say, we have often caused our soul to go hungry, thus dying day by day. What then is the proper food for the soul? It is the Word of God. Unless we commit ourselves to give some time every day to the study of the Word of God, our spiritual health will continue to deteriorate. We may think we are alright spiritually. But we need to do honest self-examination, and assess the condition of our own spiritual health.

Perhaps our problem may not be a lack of Bible knowledge but our own determination to obey God’s Word and let God’s Word change our life, and mould our character that we may grow in Christ-likeness. While it is important to have head knowledge of God’s Word so that we will not be ignorant of God’s will and desire for us, it is also important for us to live out what we have learnt from God’s Word so that we will fulfill God’s will for us perfectly to the glory of His holy name. A good question for self-examination is: “How has my life changed as a result of my study of God’s Word?”

May every member of Truth B-P Church be a faithful doer of God’s Word, and not just a hearer only. Amen.

Yours in Christ,
Pastor Dennis Kwok
