It is hardly called love when one claims to love you and yet has no desire at all to be with you. One of the many ways God shows His love is by His presence. That is a very powerful evidence of God’s love.
Joseph experienced terrible sibling rivalry. His ten brothers hated him because Jacob their father loved Joseph more than them. Joseph’s brothers almost took his life but they changed their mind and sold him to Egypt instead. It was in Egypt that the Scriptures testified that God was with Joseph. This is a powerful testimony of God’s presence in Joseph’s life. Because God was with Joseph, literally everything in his life happened for a good purpose. God made all that Joseph did to prosper and he found favour with men.
God’s presence does not mean there will be no more trouble. Troubles may keep coming but the Lord’s presence will give us the strength to overcome one difficulty after another. That was what happened to Joseph. When Potiphar’s wife failed to seduce Joseph, she took revenge by accusing Joseph of taking advantage of her. As a result, Joseph was thrown into jail. But because God was with Joseph, he was treated differently in jail. The jailer put his trust in Joseph and let him take charge of the other prisoners. It is all because God was with him.
The God of Joseph is the same God we believe in today. As He was with Joseph, He is with us. May we be assured of God’s presence as Jesus also promised us in the Great Commission in Matthew 28:20: “… I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
